Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann
Book & Audiobook Review:
I rarely read non-fiction because I often find it too dry and factual, but I was pleasantly surprised by this audiobook. The first two chronicles, narrated expertly, captivated me completely. The first chronicles the Osage murders, while the second follows Texas Ranger Tom White and his team as they search for the perpetrators. The narration brought these gripping, historical accounts to life with vivid detail and compelling voice work.
However, I found the third chronicle less engaging and ended up skimming through it. The audiobook’s pacing and content in this section didn't hold my attention as well as the earlier parts did.
I was appalled by the brutal treatment of the Osage tribe by white Americans, and the involvement of doctors and lawmen only added to the horror. The depth of greed and racism depicted was nauseating.
Although the subject matter of Killers of the Flower Moon is crucial, and the audiobook's narration did its best to bring it to life, the execution fell short for me. I have a feeling the movie adaptation might end up being more impactful than the book itself."
