A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
The romance is fantastic, the found family dynamic is spot on, and while the plot unfolds slowly, it creates space for meaningful relationship development, which helps establish the characters really well. But what truly stands out in this book is the character growth. Feyre is such a layered, multifaceted character who experiences more than just pain and anger. She grapples with conflict, numbness, and all the challenges that come with trauma. She’s not just someone who desires more from life—she’s allowed to evolve, and her transformation happens gradually as she learns to trust those around her. The relationships she builds are hard-earned, which makes them feel all the more genuine.
I can understand why this series might be hit or miss for some, but for me, as someone who values well-developed characters and complex relationships over intricate plots or world-building, I found it thoroughly enjoyable. That being said, if you’re seeking an epic fantasy with extensive world-building like Tolkien’s works or a fast-paced plot, this might not be the right fit for you.
